Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Calcutta High Court has taken up the case regarding the violent incidents that occurred during Ram Navami processions in Shivpur, Howrah, West Bengal. Lawyers representing Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari have filed a petition seeking the deployment of central forces and a CBI inquiry into the matter. The Division Bench has allowed the suit to be filed, and the case is scheduled for a hearing on Monday.
The recent outbreak of violence has led to a clash between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Despite the heavy deployment of police forces, the procession was marred by violence, with reports of bomb hurling and vandalism of vehicles, resulting in injuries and protests.
The BJP has accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of lying about the incident, while she has appealed for peace in the affected areas. The situation in Shivpur and Sankrail of Howrah remains tense, but under control, with additional police and riot control forces being deployed in the area.
Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari is scheduled to visit the victims and their families, along with the injured individuals in hospitals, and seek information about the situation from the police commissioner's office. The incident has raised concerns about the security arrangements during religious processions and the need for strict measures to prevent such violence in the future.
